Happy 4th Birthday HGC

December 19, 2013

It’s been a long time between posts and even longer between making work.

After welcoming baby Imogen to the fray this year, life has been a never ending roller-coaster and time is non-existent.

Having said that, 2014 is a new year and I look forward to once again focussing on that which irks me as I work on a new series.

The world has changed a lot and with the impending demise of establishments such as the QCP (Thanks to the Campbell Newman regime) I am going to make work that transcends ‘photography’. Photography is maligned by the public and gallery systems alike for it’s lack of aura, something that I can appreciate, even if I don’t entirely concur with.

To me, art is art and it’s what you are looking at and consuming that is more important, than where you see it or how it is made.

The thought, not the process, is what makes art great. If it is great art, of course.

Anyway, as HolyGreenCow approached it’s 5th year of existence and no longer qualifies as an Emerging Artist, the time is now to at least think about making art. In between changing nappies, tantrums and everything else that makes parenthood so much fun…

The Meme Theory at work in 2013

January 9, 2013

S.A.T.A.N.

Following on from the article in the Sunday Mail a few weeks ago, it seems that HolyGreenCow has experienced yet another 15 minutes of fame!

A recent visitor to the Queensland Centre for Photography in South Brisbane happened upon the ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told 2‘ exhibition and passed it along to a prominent (and distinguished)  blogger in the USA. Many thanks for the kind words too!!

Check out the blog here

The self perpetuating nature of the internet and the irony that this work itself could become viral (kinda viral – 20,000 hits in 2 days) is quite amusing.

Even if the subsequent traffic crashed my site twice … The sales of the work have more than made up for it    🙂

Have a Happy 2013  Y’all.

Cheers!!

Ian

Sunday Mail 16/12/12

December 16, 2012

With only a few days left before the Mayan Calendar runs out, Sally Browne at the Sunday Mail has written a fantastic article about my current show in today’s Sunday Mail.

The Greatest Story Ever Told 2  is on at the QLD Centre for Photography until the 13th of January. Assuming the Mayans were just lazy and we will all still be here.

Since it was a day after HolyGreenCow’s 3rd anniversary on the planet, this is a really special way to celebrate!!

Cheers

Ian

Happy Birthday Ver 3.0

December 15, 2012

three-cupcakes

Well, another year is over in the life of HolyGreenCow. It’s been a hectic but wonderful year and to finish it on exhibition at the QCP is awesome.

This last 12 months has been a gap year creatively, due to the relief at finishing Uni and the joy of getting to know Cordelia.

I’m pleased to be represented by my new commercial gallery Redcliffe Jetty Gallery, having made my first sales there in such a short time!!

A wonderful exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery was a stellar highlight, in a year that seems to have gone by in a flash.

Anyway, three years down and I’m looking forward to working on my new series for 2013…

Happy Birthday HGC!!

HolyGreenCow on the 6 O’clock news !!

March 16, 2012

As part of the lead up to the opening of my THEY CAME exhibition at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, I was interviewed for the Channel Seven news at 6

It’s been a fantastic week of visiting schools and talking about my work as well as working with the wonderful staff of the BRAG, to help make the opening night really cool… and  a little different… 🙂

It’s been tough being away from Jean and Cordy all week, but this residency has been quite inspiring and I am so glad to have been invited.

Introduced by Rob Bruff :p

HolyGreenCow Second Birthday!!

December 15, 2011

Today marks the 2nd Anniversary of my first use of HolyGreenCow as a pseudonym for my artistic endeavours.

It’s been a long, arduous and at times, brilliant year. Art highlights include being a finalist in the Prometheus, my inclusion in the Art bank collection and the completion of my Honours year at QCA.

Not to mention making some amazing new friends and producing work that makes me smile.

I am proud of all that I have achieved in the last 2 years but my biggest accomplishment would have to be the birth of little Cordelia  ❤

A big thanks to Jean-Maree, my wife, for putting up with me and being so supportive and Ray Cook, officially my supervisor at QCA, but unofficially, the man without whom I would never have started or continued this journey.

Next year is going to be big, starting with the solo exhibition at Bundaberg Regional Gallery and my series of talks in schools… It’s going to a great experience!!

Cheers

Ian

The Greatest Story Ever Told II

November 25, 2011

Finally, after a year, the new series is online and will debut at next weeks Grad show for Honours at QCA. (details in previous post)

This series has been incredible to make and there are so many people I would like to thank, but have already done that in person.

The Jpegs don’t do justice to the 1.5m prints, but if you can’t get to the show, there will be others in the new year!!

Stay posted.

Graduation Night

December 18, 2010

For better or for worse… it’s done. I now have a Bachelor of Photography. And a Life again…

… At least until I start Honours next year. It’ll be a struggle, but hey.. what in life isn’t?

Unfortunately I had to do it all alone last night, with Jean in Tasmania collecting her own ‘Master of Contemporary Art’ and Mum and Dad not able to make it due to health reasons. Thankfully Simon and Justine were there to help fill my belly with wine and curry on our ‘special night’  :p

But here’s a quick photo from last night’s graduation with my great friend Fidi. One of the other people that helped make it a little bit pleasant. Thanks Fidi and I will see you in LA (one day)   🙂

One year down

December 15, 2010

Today marks the one year anniversary of my first post on here as HolyGreenCow.

And what a year it’s been…

* Finished 2 Great New Series – Cataclysm and austrALIENation

* Worked with one of my heroes – Luke Roberts

* Worked with another of my heroes – Clarissa Bones

* Graduated Uni – Bachelor of Photography

* 5 Images acquired by Public Galleries

* Now have 2 wonderful galleries to represent HGC – C Gallery and 19 Karen

* Drank a LOT of wine (and Coffee)

* Met some fantastic people on the way…

To everyone that has been positive, Thank you. Especially Jean-Maree, who has helped me work my way through all this with a minimum of bloodshed    :p

To the people that have been negative, Thank you too. You have helped me focus.

Ok, thanks for reading. It has been a remarkable year.

Much Love,

Ian

Oh and I got this photo from Renata Busiak, it’s from the Pine Rivers Regional Gallery’s ‘SNAP!’ exhibition which closes soon. I’m so pleased to be hung alongside Renata, she is awesome!!
